Community Highlight

What a great kick start to our weekend! Stopping by the Santa Clarita division of Help the Children we met some of Santa Clarita's hidden treasures.

Director, Michael Santomauro kindly allowed us  to meet first hand and see our local residents volunteering and pitching in on such a wonderful local non-profit business at 25030 Ave Tibbits, Suite L in Valencia, Ca.

While touring the facility, volunteer Melanie Miles, greeted us with a loving smile and gushed kindly about her time she gives, "Help the Children is a great place to gather and help others." By her side on the sort line, we met volunteer of a year and a half, Susie Mora, who couldn't agree more with Melanie as she sorted through quality control of the fruit

This gem of a business provides a hand up to the local low-income households, veterans, seniors, local outreaches, and homeless within the community. To walk the isles, and shop for food at this distribution center on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, you must have a photo id upon arrival, and fill out a short questionnaire.

Currently, there are around 5200 households per year being serviced from this location alone and they are continuing to thrive. As the numbers grow, so is the need for volunteers and donations. Last year there was approximately 527,000 pounds of food fed throughout Santa Clarita! Just amazing!!

Seeing the operation flowing and lifting up of one another as each person would come in and out, I had to find out what we can do to give back to a non-profit that gives so much:

1. Volunteer - Call or email and see where you would best be of help. (661) 702-8852, Michael@helpthechildren.org
